ONEONTA, N.Y. – Director of Athletics, John Czarnecki recently announced the hiring of Mert Igci as the department's next Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Igci comes to Hartwick from the University of Pennsylvania where he served in various strength and conditioning roles with the football program and the Olympic sports programs. Prior to his time with the Quakers, Igci interned at Temple University assisting their strength and conditioning coaches during weight room and other conditioning sessions.
While studying at Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey, Igci worked as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Galatasaray Sports Club with the swimming, volleyball, and soccer programs.
"I am thrilled that Mert has accepted our offer to join the Hartwick Athletics family as our new Strength and Conditioning Coach," commented Czarnecki. "This is such an important role in the department and Mert's background and passion are the exact fit we were looking for. I'd like to thank the search committee (Erin Autera, Nick Ciresi, and Jim Clar) for their excellent work and recommendation to bring Mert on board - we can't wait for him to get started."
"Hartwick College is the perfect spot for me to continue my career," said Igci. "One of the things that drew me to this position was how committed and passionate the student-athletes were regarding their strength and conditioning programs. I would like to thank the search committee, John Czarnecki, and President Reisberg for giving me this opportunity."
Igci will assume his duties on Monday, January 9.
