9/11/2023 5:27:00 PM

LANCASTER, Pa. – In an effort to promote student-athlete wellness and health, the Franklin & Marshall athletic department has announced a partnership with CARON for the upcoming 2023-24 academic year.

CARON has just two locations nationwide, including the location in Berks County. CARON has a number of signature programs among its services that feature a mental health program as well and drug and alcohol education. The CARON team is comprised of full-time physicians who are board-certified in at least one – but most likely 2-3 specialty areas related to psychology, medicine, and addiction.

"This is an extremely unique opportunity for our student-athletes to get more attentive wellness programming that is specific and tailored to the student-athlete's needs and experience," explained Jordyn Kamis, F&M's assistant athletic director for student-athlete success. "Having these tremendous resources in our local area will be a huge asset to our athletic department as we seek to educate our student-athletes around of number of topics related to general health and wellness. Student-athletes will have the opportunity to not only give feedback on programming throughout the year, but have the chance for additional one-on-one sessions with CARON's experienced staff."

A certified CARON professional will make weekly visits on Thursday to Franklin & Marshall's campus. Each visit to campus will include individual meetings with student-athletes, open programming, office hours for individual appointments, and team sessions. The program officially gets underway on Thursday, September 7 with the first programming session focusing on stress management.

CARON uses a values-based outcome at its center as they look to increase access to quality treatment based on a patient's individual needs. This multi-layered outcome-based approach focuses on an individual's mind, body, and spirit and has been shown by studies to be over 92% more effective than similar programs over their 70 years of experience.
