Matt McGarvey to Serve as Head Golf Coach

TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) golf program will be led by Matt McGarvey as head coach, it has been announced. He replaces Evan Drew, who is now the head coach of the women's program at Siena College.

"I am honored and blessed to have this opportunity to lead such an outstanding group of young student athletes. I have been a fan of RPI athletics for my entire life and officially joining the team is a dream come true."

A North Troy native, McGarvey has extensive experience in the sport as well as in the business world. He played collegiately at Division II Le Moyne College before returning to the Capital District and establishing himself as one of the top amateurs in the area. He is currently the two-time defending Senior Men's Club Champion at Shaker Ridge Country Club – home course of the Engineers. Additionally in 2023, he scored second place finishes at the Tri-County Golf Association Senior Match Play Championship, Country Club of Troy Invitational, and Shaker Ridge Invitational. He has also competed in four New York State Golf Association Mid-Amateur championships.
 
Outside of golf, he is the Vice President of Business Development for Language Fundamentals & SLP Communication Foundations, where he has been employed since 2018. As a senior business-to-business sales leader, McGarvey is focused on improving the delivery of healthcare and developing new business relationships. His experience includes developing sales strategies, instituting marketing plans, performing group presentations, and spearheading significant increases in new business sales.

He has also presented to skilled nursing facility industry leaders on Clinical Reimbursement, the Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM), OIG audits, PEPPER and more to NYSHFA, The New England Alliance, The Florida Health Care Association, Marcum & Associates, Healthcare Financial Managers of Central New York.

Prior to joining his current full-time employer, he was the Director of Business Development for Harmony Healthcare International for seven years and 6N Systems, Inc. for four. McGarvey was the recipient of Harmony's Employee of the Year award in 2017 and its Leadership Award in 2015.

He earned a bachelor of science in business administration and marketing from Le Moyne and a master of business administration in health systems administration from Union Graduate College. 

McGarvey is active within various professional organizations as well as with community endeavors, including coaching youth baseball at multiple levels.
