Old Dominion announced Tuesday afternoon that women’s basketball coach DeLisha Milton-Jones received a contract extension through the 2027-2028 season.

The upcoming season will be Milton-Jones’ fourth at the helm. She has led the Monarchs to a 59-33 overall record and a 31-21 mark in conference play.

“Having the appreciation of your efforts displayed through a contract extension is the reward many coaches hope to obtain,” Milton-Jones said in a release. “I’m grateful to be able to continue my journey as the head coach for Old Dominion women’s basketball.”

Under Milton-Jones, ODU has made the conference semifinals twice, once in Conference USA in 2021 and again last season as a member of the Sun Belt. She also led the Monarchs to the second round of the WNIT in 2022.

“DeLisha Milton-Jones is a phenomenal leader of young women,” ODU athletic director Wood Selig said in a release. “She is an exceptional role model. DeLisha has been a champion at every level — college, pro and Olympics. I can’t think of anyone better suited in this day and time to lead our storied ODU women’s basketball program than DeLisha Milton-Jones. I look forward to having her lead us well into the future as she continues to lead ODU women’s basketball back to national prominence.”

Last season, the Monarchs finished 22-12 — two wins shy of the most wins DeLisha-Milton has complied in a season at ODU. The team’s home record of 13-2 was the best in the Sun Belt.

“It is a wonderful feeling knowing that my vision is supported and my work is appreciated. I thank Dr. Wood Selig for believing in me while on my quest to bring back the historical prominence of this program,” Milton-Jones said.

The Monarchs open this season Nov. 7 at home against Lincoln (Pennsylvania.)
