Lions Tab Andrew Zeger as Next Head Softball Coach

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Sept. 11, 2023) – Georgian Court University is excited to announce the hiring of Andrew Zeger as the next Head Coach of Lions Softball.

Zeger brings a wealth of experience on the diamond having been involved in coaching since 2015. He's coached both baseball and softball, with his softball coaching days having started in 2018.

"Im extremely excited to take the next step in my coaching career as the head softball coach at Georgian Court University," said Zeger. "I deeply appreciate the trust and confidence that Director of Athletics, Dan Sempkowski and the selection committee are showing by hiring me to lead these talented young women and welcoming me to Lion coaching family."

Zeger comes to Georgian Court most recently from Army West Point where he was the head assistant coach in charge of hitting and recruiting. Over the course of his year at Army, he raised the team batting average 30 points from the year prior and his team led the Patriot Lead in home runs.

Zeger's expertise is in hitting and infield instruction. He likes to lead a balanced attack of power and speed. His teams are known for being strong fundamentally and aggressive when they need to be.

"It will be a joy to get out there and started with this young group of Lions and instill confidence and belief on the field, in the classroom, and as humans in the Georgian Court Community and beyond," continued Zeger. "It feels great to be in the blue and gold."

In addition to his strong traits as an on-field coach, Zeger is highly touted in building a strong team culture. He has challenged his players and succeeded in getting them to think differently about the game and grow as players and individuals.

Speaking on the hire, Georgian Court Director of Athletics Dan Sempkowski said, "Zeger immediately stood out in a deep candidate pool with his knowledge of the game and the results he's had at his previous stops. He's someone who knows how to get the most out of his players by both challenging them and supporting them. We know that he can continue the rich tradition of Lion Softball and we are excited to see how he will bring the program to new heights."

In addition to Zeger's stops at Army, he also was the hitting coach at Furman University and ran all the defensive alignments. He had softball stops also at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi and broke into softball at the collegiate level at Daytona State College. He has also worked at the pro academy Pro Swings and worked with both college and summer league baseball teams.

Zeger has already hit the ground running at Georgian Court and can be reached at azeger@georgian.edu.
