PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Brian Savard and Caleb Philips have each transitioned to new roles for Plattsburgh State, as announced by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation on Friday morning. Savard was elevated to the role of Assistant Athletic Director, while Philips will in turn be the new Director of Athletic Communications.

"We are thrilled to announce these two, well deserved, promotions. These transitions will not only serve to strengthen our department but more importantly, will enhance the experiences we can offer to our student-athletes," stated Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Mike Howard, "I am extremely proud of the continued great work that Brian and Caleb do on a daily basis and look forward to watching both of them continue to flourish in these new roles."

In his new position, Savard will oversee business operations, marketing, and sponsorship in addition to retaining administrative oversight of the Athletic Communications Office. Philips will be taking over all of the day-to-day responsibilities of the Athletic Communications Office and will oversee the publicity efforts for Plattsburgh State's 18 varsity athletics teams, as well as developing the brand of Cardinal Athletics.

Savard has served the Plattsburgh Athletic Department over the last eight years, first serving as Director of Athletic Communications and then as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications. He will continue to serve the department in his new role, working in important areas of business operations, marketing, and sponsorship that will see his continued hard work and dedication.

"I'm ecstatic both to serve Cardinal Athletics in this new capacity and give Caleb an opportunity to run the Athletic Communications Office as our Director of Athletic Communications," Savard said, "Caleb has proven himself as a valuable asset in the department over the course of the past 18 months, overseeing record growth with our social media platforms while enhancing the student-athlete experience. This promotion for Caleb is well-earned, and Cardinal Athletics is fortunate to enter an era where the Athletic Communications Office is run under Caleb's leadership."

Philips is now entering his third academic year at Plattsburgh State, as he arrived in March of the 2021-22 academic year from Susquehanna University. Since he arrived at Plattsburgh, Philips has helped chart record growth over the department's social media platforms and continues to work hard in improving the experience of the student-athletes through social media, game day atmosphere, and overall coverage of the varsity athletic teams.

"I have nothing but excitement for this new role here at Plattsburgh, as I get to take charge of a field I am very passionate about. I also still get the incredible opportunity to both work with and learn more from Brian as I continue to grow as a professional," Philips said, "Since I arrived in Plattsburgh in March of 2022, I have greatly enjoyed working in Cardinal Country and I am looking forward to the continued chance of enhancing the experience of our student-athletes."
