INDIANAPOLIS (9/8/2023) -- University of Detroit Mercy Assistant Athletic Director for NCAA Compliance Steve Corder '98 has been appointed to represent the Horizon League on the NCAA Division I Council.

The Division I Council is a high-level group responsible for the day-to-day decision-making for Division I. Athletics directors, athletics administrators, Senior Woman Administrators, faculty athletics representatives and student-athletes serve on the Council. Every Division I conference is represented on the Council.

"I consider it a great honor to represent the Horizon League as a member of the Division I Council," said Corder. "I am committed to providing our member institutions with a voice in shaping the future of collegiate athletics and look forward to collaborating with all council members."

Corder is in his 23rd year as head of the Detroit Mercy compliance program. After serving one year as the Director or Student-Athlete Development, Corder began his role as Detroit Mercy's Compliance Coordinator in 2000 and was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for NCAA Compliance in 2006. He is also the sports supervisor for men's and women's fencing and men's soccer. 

Corder serves as the liaison for Detroit Mercy with the NCAA, Horizon League, Atlantic Sun and MAC, and served as commissioner for four years of the National Lacrosse Conference. He has also served as Chair of the Horizon League Compliance Committee, Administrative Liaison for Horizon League Soccer Coaches Committee, and presented at the NCAA Regional Rules Seminar.

Corder is a 1998 graduate of Detroit Mercy and was a member of the men's soccer program during his tenure. In addition, he also served as assistant men's soccer coach and associate head coach from 1999-08.
