Arielle Shuren Named Head Men's Tennis Coach

Hempstead, NY - Arielle Shuren, who joined the Hofstra University tennis staff as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs on January 30, 2023, has been elevated to the position of head men's tennis coach it was announced today by Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. 

"I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Arielle to lead our men's tennis team," said Cole. "She has a proven track record of developing talent and I feel that she will get the most out of our student-athletes." 

"I want to thank Rick Cole and the Hofstra administration for giving me this opportunity," said Shuren. "We have a great community here at Hofstra and I hope to continue to help inspire these young men to achieve their potential both in tennis and in life."

A four-year letter winner at the University of Delaware, Shuren brought a plethora of tennis knowledge and coaching experience to the Pride. She came to Hofstra after spending time as an assistant coach with the St. John's University women's tennis program. Prior to that she served as a volunteer assistant coach at Rutgers University.

A 2018 University of Delaware graduate, Shuren played both first singles and doubles, winning many accolades along the way. She won numerous CAA Player of the Week awards, won doubles championships at the Navy and Saint Joseph's Invitationals, and was an ITA Atlantic Regional singles and doubles participant. 

Shuren has also competed in several Women's Tennis Association tour events and won the Mount Vernon Mixed Doubles Title with partner Daniel Piludo. In 2022, Shuren was selected as one of six women to represent Team USA at the International Maccabiah Games held in Jerusalem, Israel. She advanced to the quarterfinals in women's singles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles at the event. 

In the classroom, Shuren was on the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll as a health and behavior science major with a minor in health, physical activity and disability. She then went on to obtain a master's degree from Delaware in clinical exercise physiology. Shuren uses her unique scientific training methods to bring out the best performance in the student-athletes she coaches.

As a certified instructor and member of the Professional Tennis Registry, Shuren has spent many years training high performing junior players and has been an instructor at West Point Military Academy and The Van Der Meer Tennis Academy in Hilton Head, South Carolina. She has also served as the director of tennis at Spring Lake Camp in New Jersey. Shuren currently trains several WTA touring professionals and will coach the U18 Team USA squad at the Maccabi Pan American Games later this year. She has also worked as a High Performance Fitness Coach at Magnus Potential in New Jersey, and has completed internships with the United States Tennis Association and Titus Sports Academy. Additionally, Shuren has worked as a clinical exercise physiologist in cardiac rehabilitation for Northwell Health.
