PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown Alden-Rothenberg Cross Country/Track & Field Coaching Chair Ken Hunt has announced the hiring of John Kenworthy as the new Head Women's Cross Country Coach and Assistant Distance Coach.

Kenworthy brings over a decade of head coaching experience at the Division I level to College Hill, most recently as the head coach for men's and women's cross country and track & field at Siena College.

"I am thrilled to welcome John to Brown University and the Bruno family as our Head Women's XC and Assistant Distance coach," Hunt said. "His wealth of Division I head coaching experience and his temperament perfectly align with Brown's values and the Ivy League spirit. His impressive track record of developing athletes and guiding them to regional and national levels is exactly what our program needs. I am eager to witness the positive impact he'll bring to our cross country and distance programs."

Over his 10 seasons at Siena, Kenworthy served as the Saints' head men's and women' cross country coach since 2013, and also served as the head coach of the men's and women's track and field programs since June 2015. During his tenure, Kenworthy oversaw a revitalization of the track and cross country programs, which saw him named to the MAAC Cross Country 40th Anniversary Team in 2020.

In cross country, he helped Saints student-athletes capture 30 Metro-Atlantic All-Conference honors, four NCAA All-Region honors and 25 All-ECAC/IC4A performances. He coached Olivia Lomascolo to the 2022 MAAC individual title and Brandon Olden to the 2021 IC4A championship crown.

In his eight years as head track and field coach, Kenworthy mentored 17 conference champions, 45 all-conference performers, three ECAC/IC4A champions and 29 All-ECAC/IC4A performances.

His teams were also successful in the classroom, earning a total of 24 NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) awards. Three of his cross country student-athletes earned Academic All-America honors, and all of his teams were named USTFCCCA Academic All-America squads in each of his seasons as head coach. In addition, two of his student-athletes were nominees for NCAA Woman of the Year.

Prior to Siena, Kenworthy spent three seasons as a volunteer assistant for track and cross country at his alma mater, Sacred Heart University. During his tenure, he coached six Pioneers to individual Northeast Conference titles, while 17 earned all-conference honors, and nine set school records in distance events.

Kenworthy graduated from Sacred Heart in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in political science. He holds a Coaching Level II Certification from USA Track & Field and is a USTFCCCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Kenworthy will make his debut as women's cross country head coach this Friday when Brown hosts the season-opening Rothenberg Cross Country Invitational at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass.
