Agnes Scott Welcomes Dr. Kanika Richardson as Director of Athletics

DECATUR, Ga.—Agnes Scott College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kanika Richardson as the college's new director of athletics, physical education and recreation.

Richardson joined Agnes Scott in June after spending the previous academic year as the associate regional director of athletics and director of athletics at KIPP Atlanta Collegiate. At KIPP, Richardson was responsible for assisting the regional director with all high school and middle school programming and coordination at all KIPP secondary schools across the region.

"I'm thrilled to be joining the Agnes Scott family as director of athletics, physical education and recreation," said Richardson. "It is an honor to lead Scottie Athletics in striving for excellence as we support talented and compassionate young people in all their endeavors."

A leader committed to teamwork and student success, Richardson is excited to continue the department's legacy of creating a diverse community of student-athletes and staff who will contribute to a culture of excellence and support.

Before her time at KIPP, Richardson spent three years as a director of athletics for the District of Columbia Public Schools system in Washington, D.C. Under her leadership, athletics programs saw a marked increase in engagement and enrollment. She was the lead engineer in developing enhanced communications and marketing strategies that enhanced visibility and sponsorship for the 30 athletic programs under her watch.

"We are excited for Dr. Richardson to bring her passion, energy and innovation to the Agnes Scott campus," said Dr. Chicora Martin, vice president for student affairs and dean of students. "Her leadership experience is vital as we explore the opportunities for Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation to inspire student success at Agnes Scott."

A graduate of Morgan State University with a degree in physical education, Richardson also has a master's in exercise science from Georgia State University and an EdD in sports administration from the United States Sports Academy. She holds several certifications in athletics leadership and administration from both local and national organizations.

Agnes Scott's six NCAA Division III athletic programs will begin their second year in the Collegiate Conference of the South on September 1.
