Bowersmith elevated to Assistant AD for Sports Performance

DENVER, Colo. — The Regis University Department of Athletics is excited to announce the promotion of Spencer Bowersmith to Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance; a role Bowersmith transitioned to in late October.

Bowersmith, who was hired in August of 2021 as the department's Strength and Conditioning Coach, will oversee sports medicine as well as continuing to handle the day-to-day responsibilities of the strength and conditioning department for the Rangers' 12 intercollegiate programs.

"For me, this is a dream job, and I am beyond excited for the opportunity to lead the Rangers' Sports Performance department for years to come," Bowersmith said. "Regis athletics has a lot of exciting things on the horizon and I look forward to working with our administration and coaches to continue to move the needle in a positive direction for our student-athletes."

Bowersmith came to Regis from Santa Clara University where he served as the Assistant Director of Sports Performance and worked specifically with the women's basketball, softball, men's tennis, cross country and track programs.

While at Santa Clara, he was part of a team that helped build the Athletic Excellence Center weight room; part of a $25 million athletics development project.

A San Francisco bay area native, Bowersmith's experience including strength coaching stops with the University of California Golden Bears football team, as well as professional franchises in San Jose Earthquakes and the San Jose Sharks of the NHL.

Bowersmith earned his bachelor's degree from California State University East Bay and his master's degree in 2017 from San Jose State.

As the Regis Department of Athletics heads into a new year in 2023, Bowersmith said he has a long-term vision and plan for the future of Regis Sports Medicine and Strength & Conditioning.

"My goal is to build a Sports Performance department that the student-athletes, coaches, and staff are proud of," Bowersmith said. "For us, that means continuing to develop our culture that we have been working towards for the past year and a half and renovating our facilities to get them to a level that matches or exceeds our rivals. It also means implementing a high-performance model that will see us establish the mental performance, sports nutrition, and sport science branches of the department to better serve our student-athletes."
