FRESNO, Calif. – The Bulldog Foundation continues to make a difference for Fresno State student-athletes with unprecedented support from its members.

In 2022, there was an all-time high of $4.7 million donated towards scholarships from 3,072 members throughout the Central Valley and beyond. Included in this total was another all-time high of 125 Green V level donors.

Support from former student-athletes, as part of the Club Red program, grew to 343 members contributing over $400,000, representing a 36% increase from the previous year.

"I cannot thank our donors enough for their continued support," Fresno State Director of Athletics Terry Tumey said. "Their generosity and unwavering belief in our efforts continues to create championship experiences for our student-athletes, on and off the fields of play, and helps position Fresno State Athletics to compete at the highest level."

This financial support, along with endowed scholarship distributions, will generate close to $5 million of the annual $9 million scholarship bill for the more than 400 Bulldog student-athletes receiving athletic aid.

"We are incredibly grateful for the contributions from all of our alumni and friends, and we celebrate the philanthropic support we have received this past year, but ultimately there is still room to grow and a gap to close as we move forward," Tumey added. "To compete at the level our programs and this Valley deserves, we need continued growth in revenue generation and community involvement."

The groundswell of support from the Red Wave was also reflected in attendance at Valley Children's Stadium this past fall as Fresno State led the Mountain West and finished third nationally among "Group of Five" programs with an average attendance of 39,067.

By comparison, Fresno State's average football attendance in 2022 was higher than Cal, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Wake Forest, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Oregon State, Washington State and Duke.

This past summer, Fresno State Athletics and the Bulldog Foundation launched the Marvin and Tish Meyers Champions Circle.

Since 1950, the Bulldog Foundation has been a driving force in creating championship experiences for Fresno State student-athletes through philanthropic giving, which supports scholarships, capital projects and sport specific funds for excellence.

The Bulldog Foundation began in 1933 as the "600 Club" with a fundraising goal of $600.

It was founded to help Fresno State provide resources to its students to become future leaders in family, community, business, government, arts, education, and athletics. In 1950 the "600 Club" became the Bulldog Foundation and raised $10,000. The decision was made in 1950 to incorporate the "BDF" as a non-profit fund-raising organization.

"Fresno State Athletics – For The V: The Central Valley" – Bulldog student-athletes, coaches, and staff proudly wear the "Green V" to show their pride in representing the Central Valley.  Stories of why the Bulldogs play for the "Green V" will be shared throughout the next year with #ForTheV.  To become a Bulldog Foundation member or learn more about the Meyers Champions Circle and other opportunities to impact Fresno State student-athletes, please call 559-278-7160 or visit bulldogfoundation.org
