Malik Williams Joins NYU Staff

Will Serve as Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Policy

Malik Williams has been named the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Policy within New York University's Department of Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation.

Among his numerous responsibilities, Williams is in charge of overseeing NCAA Compliance for all 23 varsity sports at NYU, providing guidance to student-athletes, coaches and administrators. He will be working to expand Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for NYU student-athletes while developing policy and offering trainings to ensure that they are best positioned to take advantage of these opportunities responsibly. Williams also handles internal NYU Athletics' policy and reviews contracts with vendors.

"I am extremely pleased that Malik is joining our department," said Stuart Robinson, NYU's Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Athletics. "From our first conversation, I knew that Malik offered qualities that distinguished him from other candidates. His insights about important issues facing intercollegiate athletics along with his love of sports offered a refreshing perspective that I believe will serve our student-athletes, coaches and staff well. I am excited by what he brings to NYU's student-athletes."

Williams comes to NYU after working as an Antitrust and Sports Associate at Winston & Strawn, LLP since 2019. While there, Williams represented numerous high-profile clients, including professional athletes, the NFLPA and NCAA Division I athletes, among others.

At Winston & Strawn, Williams was involved in a variety of internal investigations in high-profile industries and worked closely with the governing documents for numerous sports leagues, including the NCAA bylaws, FIFA statutes and those governing the NBA, NFL, MLS, and WTA.

Williams is already familiar with Washington Square, as he earned his JD from the NYU School of Law in May 2019. Williams completed his undergraduate studies at Georgetown University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government with a minor in Economics in 2016.

"I could not be more excited to have this opportunity to better the lives of the extremely hardworking and talented student-athletes here at NYU," Williams said. "I look forward to helping NYU Athletics continue its ascent in the collegiate ranks by leveraging the advantages of being an elite institution in the greatest city in the world."
Prior to Winston & Strawn, Williams served as a legal intern at Madison Square Garden Sports & Entertainment in 2018.

Williams is a native of Glen Rock, NJ, and resides in Manhattan.
