WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Athletic Director Todd Helton has announced Brett Weiberg will become the new Head Men's Basketball Coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and the 16th head coach in program history.
"We are very excited to have Coach Weiberg and his family join the SWOSU team," said SWOSU Athletic Director Todd Helton. "We feel he will be a great fit within our university and community. More importantly, he will recruit quality young men and do everything in his power to help them grow as athletes, students, and people. His enthusiasm and knowledge of the game along with his basketball contacts will make an immediate impact on the men's basketball program, both on and off the court."
Helton continued. "Thank you to Dr. Lovell for her leadership and the search committee for their time and effort in the review of an outstanding pool of candidates."
Weiberg has accrued 25 years of coaching experience spanning across the collegiate and high school landscapes. 20 of those years have come at the college level including 12 as a head coach. He had most recently moved on to a new challenge as an athletic director and head basketball coach at Madill High School in southern Oklahoma, his home for the past five years.

Prior to transitioning to the high school ranks, Weiberg was head coach at NCAA Division II Missouri Western State – a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) that competes in the Central Region alongside SWOSU. He led the Griffons for five seasons from 2013-18, qualifying for the postseason in four of those campaigns while having the program synonymous with community involvement and community service. During the 2016 postseason, his team snapped a six-year program drought by collecting a postseason win and advancing to the quarterfinals of the MIAA Tournament.
Weiberg began his head coaching tenure in 2006 with seven seasons at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa after spending the previous five years as an assistant under his father, Mick Weiberg, who is a now a member of the Oklahoma Basketball Association Hall of Fame. In seven years at the helm of the program, he posted a 129-87 (.597) record and had 10 players earn All-Conference accolades. His final year at NOC culminated with a 27-4 record, an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference (OCAC) Championship, and a national junior college ranking.
His coaching career originated in 1998 immediately following a successful four-year career as a student-athlete. Weiberg spent single seasons as an assistant at Blinn College, Wayland Baptist, and finally the University of Texas at San Antonio before joining forces with his father at NOC-Tonkawa.
During his playing days, he was a First Team All-Conference and All-Region selection at NOC-Tonkawa in junior college before transferring to Division I Sam Houston State to finish out his career. Weiberg was a team captain at both schools he played for and a two-time Southland Academic All-Conference winner while at SHSU.
He holds a trio of degrees including a bachelor's of Science from Sam Houston State University (1998) and a master's of Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University (2006).
Coach Weiberg is married to his wife Kristy and the two are proud parents of Jared Cole, Jayden Cora, and Jackson Cash.
An introductory event in the Skyview Suite of the Pioneer Cellular Event Center is being planned to welcome Weiberg. Details for that are anticipated to be finalized in the coming days.
