Mankato, Minn.  ---  Minnesota State Director of Athletics, Kevin Buisman, has announced that Charlie Snelson has joined the Maverick athletic department as an Assistant Director of Athletics/Director of Athletic Communications.

Snelson, a native of Mankato and a 2015 Minnesota State University graduate, returns to his alma mater after spending the last three years at Michigan Tech University as the Director of Athletic Communications.

"We are excited about this opportunity to bring Charlie home," said Buisman.  "He is a very talented young man, with quite an array of experiences.  In addition to being an excellent communicator, Charlie possesses additional skills in video, digital, and social media platforms that will continue to enhance and grow the operation."

While at Tech, Snelson was the primary contact for football, men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's tennis and also worked with the men's and women's cross country, women's soccer and track and field programs.  He also served as the radio play-by-play voice for MTU basketball and football.  Prior to his time at Tech, Snelson spent two years at Montana State Billings, where he held positions as the Interim Director of Communications in 2019-20 and as the Assistant Director of Communications for a year.  While at MSU Billings, Snelson won the 2020 District 7 CoSIDA Fred E. Stabley Writing Contest in the category of Social Justice/Diversity & Inclusion.

"It is an honor to return to Minnesota State University," Snelson said.  "I want to thank Director of Athletics, Kevin Buisman, and the search committee for giving me the opportunity to tell the stories of our student-athletes and highlight their many accomplishments. There has always been a unique bond between Maverick athletics and the greater Mankato community and I am grateful to be a part of it once again."

Snelson owns a Master's Degree from Northern Colorado where he spent two seasons working as a graduate assistant in the sports information office.  While at UNC, he was the primary contact for soccer and men's and women's tennis.  Additionally, Snelson spent one summer as the radio play-by-play voice for the Mankato Moondogs (2017), as well as working in a variety of other positions with the organization as an intern.
