Sweet Briar Tabs Soliz for Head Swim Coach, Aquatics Director

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College Department of Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Monica Soliz as the new head swim coach and aquatics director. Soliz is set to begin her duties on August 1.

"We are excited to add Monica to the Sweet Briar family," stated Director of Athletics, Jason Vittone. "There is a lot of room for growth with our swimming program and I think she is well suited to guide the program in a great direction. We feel very fortunate to add her to our staff."

Before coming to Sweet Briar, Soliz served as the assistant men's and women's swim coach at the University of the Cumberlands, an NAIA institution in Kentucky. While in Williamsburg, Soliz helped lead both teams to repeat Mid-South Conference Championships. Additionally, she assisted with all of the season logistics for both teams while also coordinating the recruitment of student-athletes for the 2023-24 academic year.

Soliz also spent time this summer as the pool and swim team manager at the Roxiticus Golf Club in New Jersey. There, Soliz was tasked with preparing the pool for inspection from the health department, facilitating the in-service curriculum for the lifeguard team, overseeing the communication and scheduling aspects for staff and team members and hosting various swim league championships and dual meets.

She has served as the senior swim coach for Metro Aquatics in Tacoma, Washington; implementing daily workouts and team practices, assisting in recruiting and registering new swimmers and hosting swim meets. While with Metro Aquatics, Soliz sent two simmers to Senior Regionals and Future Championship meets.

In regards to her new journey here at Sweet Briar, Soliz stated, "I feel blessed to be joining Sweet Briar and its legacy of leadership for young women. Sweet Briar drew me in with its familial environment and the beautifully unique campus where there is a place for everyone."

Soliz graduated from Benedictine University with a Bachelor of Business Management in 2018 and is currently working towards her Master's in Coaching at the University of the Cumberlands.
