HIRAM, Ohio - July 24, 2023 - Hiram College named Shannon Schaub its head softball coach on Monday, as announced by the school's athletic department.

Coach Schaub spent the last five seasons as the head coach of the Wittenberg University softball program, leading nine different student-athletes to All-NCAC honors since she started in 2019. Schaub notably lifted the team to a 22-12-1 record in 2021 and recently helped the program to its most conference wins in a season (7) in five years in 2023.

"I'm honored to take on the role of Hiram College Head Softball Coach," Schaub said. "Hiram has made itself known in the NCAC and regionally from the players and coaches that came before and I have high hopes that I can continue the success and tradition that is built here."

Hiram is coming off its fourth NCAC Tournament title, fourth NCAA Tournament appearance and first Super Regional appearance this past season. The Terriers won 10 of their last 13 games to finish with 27 victories, tied for the program's second-most wins in a single season. The team now sets its sights on 2024, with a number of all-conference student-athletes returning and a chance to win a third straight NCAC Tournament title at stake.

"The foundation is strong, the expectations are high and I'm ready to provide an environment where these young ladies can grow physically, mentally, socially and spiritually into the women they aspire to be," Schaub said. "Thank you to (Director of Athletics) Scott Pohlman for the opportunity to lead this program."

Prior to coaching at Wittenberg University, Schaub spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at Division II Ashland University. The Tigers had a winning record in each of those seasons, while also making six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2010-15.

"We were excited to attract a coach the caliber of Coach Schaub," Pohlman said. "Coach Schaub distanced herself from the other candidates during the hiring process and it became apparent that Coach Schaub was the perfect fit for Hiram College and our softball program."

Schaub also played softball at Ashland from 2005-09, where she played pitcher and first base. The 2009 campaign saw her earn First Team All-Region and First Team All-GLIAC honors after she led her team in batting average (.357), slugging percentage (.629), home runs (11) and RBI (31). Those 11 home runs are currently tied for the fourth-most in a season in Ashland softball history.

"Coach Schaub has proven herself not only as an outstanding recruiter but as a great tactician on the field," Pohlman said. "It is our belief that Coach Schaub will continue the upward trend of Hiram softball and move us to the next level."

Schaub is the 18th head softball coach in Hiram history, and the 16th head coach since the program transitioned to fast-pitch softball as a varsity sport in 1984. The 2024 season will be the program's 25th as a member of the NCAC.
