Jalon Avent Named MAC Associate Executive Director

Avent will lead the conference’s internal and external communications

NEWTOWN, Pa. (Conference News) –, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Executive Director Megan Morrison has announced the appointment of Jalon Avent as the next Associate Executive Director for Communications with the MAC.

“Jalon brings experiences from coaching and from campus athletics administration, both of which will serve him well as he steps into this role,” said Morrison. “I would like to thank and honor Jon Hower for the many contributions to the MAC and its student-athletes he made in his ten years. I’m confident Jalon will step in and build upon the strong foundation Jon laid.”

Avent will begin his role on July 24, replacing Hower, who will depart the MAC at the end of July after nearly 10 years with the conference.
 
Avent will oversee the conference internal and external communications, brand, website, and social media accounts while also supporting the administration of the conference’s 27 sports and 40 championships.

Avent comes to the MAC after spending two years at Onondaga Community College (OCC) as the Assistant Athletic Director (2021-23). Avent was responsible for the operations and management of all OCC home athletic events, overseeing the communications of the colleges 16 sports, as well as acting as the point of contact for intramural sport operation and club sport management.


Prior to OCC, Avent was an assistant football coach at Alfred State College where he was responsible for coaching the defensive line and running the team’s social media accounts.
 
Avent graduated from Notre Dame College in 2016 where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management while also earning all-conference honors on the football team. He obtained his master’s degree in sport management from SUNY Cortland in 2020.

The MAC currently sponsors 27 intercollegiate sports that compete in the NCAA Division III. More than 7,000 student-athletes participate in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's indoor track & field, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's outdoor track & field, softball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's volleyball and wrestling.
