Olson decides to step away from coaching

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Earlier this week, Kenyon College volleyball coach Emma Olson announced her resignation to her team, as well as to Jill McCartney, Kenyon's Director of Athletics, Fitness, and Recreation.

"We've appreciated Emma's leadership of the volleyball program and efforts to immerse herself in the Kenyon community," McCartney said. "She made noticeable improvements to the program, recruited a strong class, and worked diligently to ensure continued success for this fall and beyond."

Olson, hired at Kenyon in the summer of 2022, successfully built up the team's roster size, while winning three more matches than the team did the previous season. One of those wins was the program's first against DePauw University since the 2011 season.

Olson's 2022 team also qualified for and won a match in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. In addition to her work on the court, Olson involved herself in the department and campus community, serving as a co-advisor for the Kenyon Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and working with both the Kenyon Athletics Awards Committee and the Kenyon Athletics Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

"There is never a perfect time to step away from a program or coaching in general, but at this moment, I have to prioritize what is best for me and my family," Olson said. "I have enjoyed building up Kenyon volleyball over the last year. These women are strong, caring, and motivated to continue to elevate the program for years to come."
