Lone Star Conference adding STUNT in spring of 2024

RICHARDSON, Texas – The Lone Star Conference is adding STUNT as an official league sport, it was announced Tuesday (July 18). The first season of league play will be the spring of 2024.

LSC member institutions with STUNT include DBU, St. Mary’s, Texas Woman’s and UT Tyler. Texas A&M-Kingsville has announced the addition of its STUNT program beginning in spring of 2025.

STUNT is among the fastest-growing female sports in the country and in January was elevated to NCAA women’s emerging sport status by the Division II membership.

STUNT focuses on the skills and technical elements of cheer, including partner stunts, team routines, pyramids, basket tosses and more. Two teams compete in a head-to-head performance over four quarters, with each team awarded points based on its skill execution. As each element is finished, the winning side takes the round and point. That team then selects which routine will be performed next.

The LSC regular season for STUNT will include one conference contest against each opposing team. The results will determine seeding for the four-team conference championship, with the inaugural championship March 23, 2024 at the site of the top seed.

STUNT will have players of the week, all-conference teams and all-academic teams and student-athletes will be eligible for all major conference awards.

STUNT will be the 19th LSC championship sport, joining baseball, basketball (men’s and women’s), cross country (men’s and women’s), football, golf (men’s and women’s), indoor track and field (men’s and women’s), outdoor track and field (men’s and women’s), soccer (men’s and women’s), softball, tennis (men’s and women’s) and volleyball.
