Staten Island, NY - It was officially announced last month that Brian Guidera was has been named Associate Director of Athletics for NCAA Compliance at the College of Staten Island.  As Associate Director of Athletics, Guidera will oversee all compliance-related responsibility within CSI Athletics including team recruitment and student-athlete retention.  He will also work alongside CSI's head coaches to help facilitate the admissions process for incoming athletes and will assist those student-athletes as the department's point of contact for advisement, registration, financial aid and housing on campus.

"Brian brings vast experience to CSI as a former Aquatics Director and Swim Coach at Division I St. Francis College," said former St. Francis colleague and current CSI Director of Athletics Chase Licata.  "His knowledge and experience will be a valuable asset as we look to improve our standing within the ECC and Division II.  I value Brian's opinions and decision-making processes and will look for him to oversee day-to-day operations.  Brian has extensive knowledge of the rules and regulations within the scholarship framework and will be an asset to the coaches as they bolster their rosters with high caliber student-athletes."

Guidera arrives at CSI by way of the St. Francis Athletics Department where he became the Head Coach of the Terriers' Swimming & Diving program in September of 2007.  In 2019, Guidera accepted the position of Director of Aquatics in conjunction with his Head Swimming & Diving coaching position, a role he remained in until St. Francis eliminated their athletics program earlier this year.  During Guidera's tenure as the Terriers' Head Coach, he led the program to great success both in the pool and classroom. The program set numerous records and earned CSCAA Team Academic All-American honors.  During his time at St. Francis, Guidera also had multiple NCAA 'B' Qualifiers, Northeast Conference Individual Champions, Metropolitan Conference Individual Champions, and over 100 All-Conference honorees.

Prior to arriving at St. Francis, Guidera began his coaching career as the Head Age Group Coach for the Westfield YMCA Devilfish in Westfield, New Jersey from 2001 through 2008. He remained in this role until he was promoted to the Director of Competitive Aquatics for the Westfield YMCA.  Along with those responsibilities, Guidera served as the head coach of the Devilfish Swim Team, a nationally ranked club team of over 250 swimmers.  The success of his program garnered many Academic All-Americans, YMCA All-Americans, High School All-Americans, Junior and Senior National Qualifiers, and US Open Qualifiers.

Guidera's appointment as Associate Director of Athletics also marks a return to the College of Staten Island where he spent two years completing his undergraduate degree.  After attending Hartwick College for two years, he transferred to the College of Staten Island where he completed his degree in Finance.  Speaking of Guidera's ongoing connection to CSI, Licata said, "Brian and his wife Kim are connected closely to CSI community and have a passion for this campus. I certainly can say Brian is committed to being part of the success of our department and its campus community."

"I am excited to start the next chapter in my career working in athletics," said Guidera.  "I loved being a part of the CSI family as an athlete, and I look forward to helping the next generation of Dolphins continue building on the success that they have already achieved."

Guidera has already had the opportunity to get to work following the start of his appointment last month and has played a key role in assisting CSI's incoming class of student-athletes.  Many of CSI's student-athletes will arrive on campus in mid-to-late August ahead of the first day of classes at the College of Staten Island on August 25, 2023.  Shortly after, the Dolphins will host their first intercollegiate athletic competition of the season when Women's Soccer and Men's Soccer open the season with a doubleheader at Dolphins Soccer Park on August 31, 2023.
