8/16/2023 11:00:00 AM

Seton Hill University President Mary Finger has announced the hiring of Sarah Fowler as the school's head cross country coach.  Fowler will also serve as an assistant for the track and field programs.

"I am really excited to join the staff at Seton Hill," stated Fowler.  "From our very first conversation, I could tell this University is a great place to be. Every person I spoke to was extremely welcoming, helpful, eager, and positive. I can't wait to contribute to this environment and to help grow the cross country and track programs. I am thrilled to work alongside Coach Johnson and I cannot thank Chris Snyder enough for giving me this opportunity. I'm ready to hit the ground running and get started!"

"I am pleased to welcome Sarah Fowler to Seton Hill as our Head Cross Country Coach," said Athletic Director Chris Snyder.  "Sarah brings great experience as a runner with multiple All American awards as a student athlete.  I am looking forward to a bright future for our cross country programs."

Fowler was most recently the head cross country and assistant track and field coach at Minot State University in North Dakota where she spent two seasons.  While at Minot State, both cross country teams earned USTFCCCA All Academic Team honors after the 2022 season.  Sarah was the NSIC Representative for the USTFCCCA NCAA DII Cross Country Executive Committee and was a member of the USTFCCCA Female Coaching Mentorship Program.

Fowler joined Minot State from the University of Illinois-Springfield.  In cross country, Fowler helped the men's team finish second at the conference meet, and the women's team come in sixth, both new program-bests. She coached the first two NCAA cross country qualifiers in program history, including Taryn Christy who earned All-American honors.  In the indoor season, Fowler assisted Christy as she earned all-GLVC accolades with a runner-up GLVC finish in the 3,000m. Christy also became the first UIS track national qualifier in program history, and she earned All-American honors in the 5,000m.  She helped the Prairie Stars earn three national qualifiers from 2019-20.

Prior to joining the staff at Illinois-Springfield, Fowler was a volunteer coach in the Big Ten at Nebraska from 2017-19. Sarah was a part of the coaching staff that helped the Huskers win the 2019 Big Ten Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship. In cross country, Fowler helped coach two men's national qualifiers.

As a student-athlete, Fowler was a nine-time National Qualifier, six-time All-American Honors, and Academic All-American Team Selection during her time at Ohio Wesleyan University. She was a decorated track and field athlete including eight-time Individual NCAC Champion, six-time NCAC Team Champion, and two-time NCAC Cross Country Runner of the Year, and 2017 NCAC Outdoor Distance Runner of the Year.

Fowler earned the 2017 Nan Carney-DeBord Award for the Ohio Wesleyan Top Senior Female Athlete.  Sarah earned Individual All-Ohio Champion four times, two-time All-Ohio Team Champion, and 2015, 2016 Ohio Division III Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Fowler graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 2017 with a degree in Exercise Science and Psychology. She was named an Academic All-American while at Ohio Wesleyan. She earned her Master's in 2019 in Psychology from Capella University.
