New Daktronics scoreboards ready for spring semester games

The new scoreboard for Bourke Field was installed in mid-November.
Two of the Rockhurst athletic fields will have updated looks in the upcoming spring semester. New Daktronics scoreboards were installed near the end of the fall semester at Bourke Field and the Loyola Park softball field.

Capital Electric installed the two scoreboards in mid-November. Several weeks later, shot clocks for lacrosse were installed on posts at the north and south ends of Bourke Field just outside the fences and are permanently wired for power. For the past six seasons that shot clocks have been mandated by the NCAA, the clocks were placed on the field, plugged into electrical outlets before each game, and then moved back into storage at the conclusion of the day.

According to RU Associate Director of Athletics Mike Koehler, a Daktronics technician will complete the training process in the next few weeks and ensure all boards are communicating with the All Sport scoring panels before the first lacrosse game in February.

"We are excited to have the new scoreboards installed and ready to go for this spring at Loyola Park for softball (see photo below) and on Bourke Field. The new boards were much needed. The previous boards had served us well for the past 18 years but needed replacing, as we encountered issues with them last year," said Koehler, who coordinated the project.

"Daktronics has been a great company to work with over the past 12 years as we've replaced our basketball and baseball boards. We were hoping they would arrive in time for soccer season, but supply chain issues changed the production schedule as we placed our order."

The new scoreboards have electronic caption names to allow for displaying school/mascot names at each game. The new scoreboard at Bourke Field will also be able to track penalty minutes for lacrosse matches, which will enhance the fan experience. Previously, penalty minutes were kept at the table on the field between the two team benches.

The shot clocks (see photo below) were installed outside the fences to protect them from lacrosse balls, which has impacted games when the antennae on the portable shot clocks were hit during pregame warmups.

"We are especially excited to have the shot clocks for lacrosse now permanently installed, which will make game-day preparations easier for our staff, grad assistants and student workers," added Koehler.

"We want to thank all of our donors who make it possible to provide these facility enhancements for our student-athletes and fans."
