Ruane departs Palm Beach State; Named Head Coach at D2 Franklin Pierce

Mike Ruane has been named as the new head men’s basketball coach at D2 Franklin Pierce University (NH). The school released the following on Facebook earlier today:

The Franklin Pierce University Athletics Department is excited to officially name Mike Ruane as Head Coach of Men’s Basketball. Ruane is part of an exclusive group of Division II coaches to have over 400 career wins. Here’s to many more in Rindge! #RollBirds

Ruane is no stranger to D2 basketball in New England, having spent 22-seasons as the head coach at the University of Bridgeport before taking over at Palm Beach State last May. During his time at UB, he led his teams to over 400 wins, and 11 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Ruane has also been named ECC Coach of the year five times, Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Coach of the Year, Fairfield County Sports Person of the Year for Bridgeport and received the Sam Schoenfeld Award for Sportsmanship presented by the Collegiate Basketball Officials Association twice.

Prior to his appointment at Bridgeport, Ruane spent two seasons under legendary and Naismith Hall of Fame Coach Herb Magee at Jefferson University (formally Philadelphia University and Philadelphia Textile). He also was an assistant at NJIT and West Virginia Wesleyan College.

He replaces long-time head coach Davis Chadbourne who became the women’s basketball head coach at D3 Southern Maine back in early July.
