Kelly Bommer spent 4 years with Gannon Athletics, most recently as Assistant Director of Athletics for Business and Special Projects

ERIE, Pa. – Kelly Bommer, Gannon University's Assistant Director of Athletics for Business and Special Projects, is returning to her alma mater to serve in the athletic administration at Fairfield University.

Bommer, who has spent four years with Gannon Athletics in a variety of roles, will work her final day with GU on Thursday. She will become the Associate Athletic Director of Administration at Fairfield, an NCAA Division I university in Fairfield, Conn. Bommer will oversee compliance, academics, and student-athlete services.

"Kelly has made such a phenomenal impact on our department, University, and the students we serve," said Lisa Goddard McGuirk, Gannon Director of Athletics. "She has assisted us in moving forward in a variety of ways, including department external relations, streamlining processes for student-athlete development initiatives, and engagement efforts for our constituents. Her positive impact on Gannon Athletics will be felt long after she's gone. Working alongside Kelly has been a tremendous privilege, and we are excited to watch her continue to excel in her career."

Bommer joined Gannon in August 2019 as the Assistant Compliance and Academics Coordinator, a position she served in for almost two years. In July 2021, she moved into a new role, Business and Special Projects Manager. One year later, she was promoted again to her most recent position.

As Assistant Director of Athletics for Business and Special Projects, Bommer's duties included assisting in daily business operations, maintaining relationships with sponsors, partnering with the Advancement Office, and coordinating ticketing for home basketball and football games, and championship events. She also played an integral role in many Gannon events, including the annual Gannon Golf Outing, Homecoming, Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony, and Student-Athlete End of the Year Celebration.

"I am so incredibly thankful for the four years I have spent at Gannon University," Bommer said. "As a university and department, we have made tremendous strides in building a remarkable student-athlete experience in competition, in the classroom, and in the community. I have advanced professionally and am confident that Gannon has best prepared me for this next step in my career. I am filled with overwhelming gratitude for the mentorship and leadership of Lisa Goddard McGuirk, Meghan Morphy, Dan Teliski, and many others at the University and will continue to cheer on the Golden Knights from afar."

Bommer previously served as a graduate assistant for Fairfield from January 2018 to July 2019. She received her Bachelor of Science from Fairfield's Dolan School of Business in December 2017 and earned her Master of Science in May 2019. She is pursuing her Doctorate of Philosophy in Organizational Leadership and Learning with Gannon and is on pace to graduate in December.
