Tyler Keane Named WNE Women’s Wrestling Head Coach / Assistant Director of Wrestling

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (August 7, 2023) – Western New England University Director of Athletics and Recreation Dino L. Pollock, Esq. is pleased to announce the hiring of Tyler Keane as the next Women's Wrestling Head Coach and Assistant Director of Wrestling. Keane will become the second head coach in the program's short history. 


"I am excited to announce the hiring of Tyler Keane as our Assistant Director of Wrestling/Head Women's Wrestling Coach and welcome him back to the Golden Bear family," said Pollock. "Tyler brings seven years of collegiate and high school coaching experience to the WNE Women's Wrestling program, including a recent stint as an assistant coach on Coach Mike Sugermeyer's men's wrestling staff.  Tyler brings all-important freestyle wrestling experience to the women's wrestling program that looks to grow and prosper under his leadership.  Tyler also understands the importance building an inclusive culture in the women's wrestling program and of maintaining high academic standards with success on and off the mat.  I look forward to start of his tenure as our new head coach!"


Keane is no stranger to the blue and gold, having been an assistant coach for five seasons with the Western New England men's wrestling program from 2016-2017, and 2018-2022. There, Keane helped take the program to new heights, mentoring 12 NCAA All-Region wrestlers, six NCAA National Qualifiers, five All-Americans, 13 NWCA Scholar All-Americans, and Western New England's first ever NCAA National Champion. Keane also has experience coaching regionally, being involved with the Bay State Wrestling Club, located in Springfield, Mass., where Keane has mentored and coached numerous All-State, All-New England, and All-American wrestlers.

I am deeply grateful to Athletic Director Dino Pollock and Director of Wrestling Mike Sugermeyer for entrusting me with the role of Assistant Director of Wrestling and Head Women's Wrestling Coach at Western New England University. A 2016 graduate of Springfield College, Keane's repertoire includes NCAA Division III Regional Champion in the 133 lb. weight class, NCAA National Qualifier in the 133 lb. weight class, a two-time National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American, and a two-time NCAA Division III Regional Place winner while with the Pride. Keane graduate from Springfield College with a bachelor's degree in marketing and followed that up by receiving his master's degree in business administration from Springfield College in 2017. 


A native of Glastonbury, Connecticut, Keane was a two-time New England finalist, one-time New England Champion, a two-time Connecticut State Open Champion (four-time State Place Winner), and three-time Connecticut Class LL State Champion (four-time finalist). Keane recorded an astonishing 182-9 record at Glastonbury High School over his four-year career. Along with his high school career, Keane was a member of the Connecticut Wrestling National Team from 2009-2011. 


Keane will begin his duties as Women's Wrestling Head Coach and Assistant Director of Wrestling on August 15.
