8/8/2023 9:33:00 AM

DANBURY, CONN. - Western Connecticut State University has announced the hiring of David Kingsley as its next Associate Athletic Director for Sports Communications and Compliance.  Kingsley, comes to WestConn from Trinity College where he served as Director of Sports Communications and Assistant Athletic director.  When his tenure begins on September 1, he will be replacing Scott Ames, who announced his retirement in May after a 34-year career with the Wolves.

"We are so pleased to have David join the athletic staff here at WestConn," said Lori Mazza, Director of Athletics.  " He brings years of experience to the position. It is not easy to find someone to replace a long tenured associate AD who has such knowledge of not only the position but all who walked through our doors. We are very fortunate to  get someone of David's quality. It is both exciting, and reassuring, that our coaches and student-athletes are in great hands.  We look forward to what he has done for Trinity here to WestConn."

Possessing a wealth of experience in athletic communications, Kingsley held the positions of director of sports information, director for sports communications, and assistant athletic director for communications during his 25 years at Trinity College. Prior to Trinity, Kingsley was an assistant at Southern Connecticut State University, working under the tutelage of Hall of Fame Sports Information Director (SID) Rick Leddy.

Kingsley headed up a comprehensive athletic communications office at Trinity, where he was responsible for all public relations functions for its NCAA Division III, 30-sport athletic department.  He helped Trinity's teams consistently gain local and national media attention and elevated the department's creative, multimedia, graphic and social media efforts throughout his time with the Bantams.

"I would like to thank Athletic Director Lori Mazza and the other members of the search committee for giving me this fantastic opportunity," Kingsley said. "Scott Ames set an elite standard of excellence and professionalism at WestConn and I am honored to follow him in this role. I could not be more excited to get to work helping WestConn Athletics and its student-athletes, coaches, and staff achieve their goals."

Kingsley has served as media host for multiple athletic championship events, including the 2021 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championships and the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Semifinals.  He was the co-chair of the Trinity Athletics Branding Committee and chair of both the Trinity College Athletics Hall of Fame Committee and is a veteran member of the College Sports Communicators (CSC) organization.

Kingsley graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in communication and was a pitcher for the Quaker baseball team.  He went on to coach baseball and earn a master's degree in exercise science from Southern Connecticut State University.
