Devon Clemmer Named Head Men's & Women's Tennis Coach

Lancaster Bible College and the Lancaster Bible College Athletic Department are pleased to announce Devon Clemmer has been named the 16th Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach in program history. Clemmer replaces Yancy Butler, his former coach, who stepped down following the 2023 season.

Clemmer graduated from Lancaster Bible this past May while competing as part of the men's tennis team for all four years. Clemmer had one of the most impactful careers in recent history, winning 28 singles matches and 27 doubles contests. Clemmer was also a significant piece of the men's team that won the 2021 NEAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament. He was also named to the 2023 United East All-Conference team in both singles and doubles, while being recognized on the 2023 All-Sportsmanship team.

Clemmer couldn't help but express gratitude for the program's impact on his life and how that plays into his desire to give back, "I am very excited to be the coach of the LBC men's and women's tennis teams. It's a great honor and privilege to return to LBC athletics and give back to a program and sport that has greatly impacted me. I have grown as a person, athlete, leader, and believer in my time here, and it has left a lasting impact. As a coach, I desire to care for each athlete, get to know them, and encourage them in their journeys of life and faith in Christ."

Not only was Clemmer a significant piece in the success of the program on the court, but coaches and teammates alike have pointed out the leadership that Clemmer has brought since the moment he joined the team.

When asked about what he hopes most for the program this year, he couldn't help but express what he did for the past four years. "I desire that the LBC tennis program would be a positive, uplifting environment where each athlete feels cared for, continually cares for others and points each other to Christ. I also desire to push the athletes for tennis excellence while having fun and enjoying the game. Yet all the while competing in a manner that glorifies God and testifies of His work in our lives."

Director of Athletics Rod Baughman couldn't express more the excitement for Clemmer to join the team this fall, "I am so excited for the future of our Tennis Program.  For the past 4 years I have had a front row seat watching Devon grow as a player, develop as a leader, and care for his teammates.  Much of the success our program has experienced over the past few years has a great deal to do with what Devon has done on the court and even more to do with the culture he helped to create and guard.  Our team knows and respects him, and I believe will grow to trust him in this new role.  I am grateful that he knows and loves Lancaster Bible College.  This is a great opportunity for Devon, and I am confident he will approach it like he does all else in life, with this very best effort, a hunger to grow, and a positive attitude and impact on those around him."

Clemmer will begin his responsibility in the coming days, but before he does, he wanted to thank all those who've had a special impact on his life. Reflecting on those who have done so much for him, Clemmer is ready to turn it around and do the same for others.

"I want to thank LBC for their impact in my life and support of me in this role," Clemmer said.  "Also, thanks to the Director of Athletics, Rod Baughman, who has supported me in tennis, life, and in this role. Lastly, I want to thank my family, friends, mentors, coaches, and many others for their continual support."
