Marvin Lewis, Shoshanna Engel Lewis Promoted to Assistant Vice President for Athletics and Recreation

Marvin Lewis will be the Assistant Vice President for Athletics and Recreation/Chief Operating Officer and Shoshanna Engel Lewis will serve as Assistant Vice President for Athletics and Recreation/Governance and Performance

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Chancellor Samuel M. Mencoff '78 Vice President for Athletics and Recreation M. Grace Calhoun '92, Ph.D. announced the promotions of Marvin Lewis and Shoshanna Engel Lewis to Assistant Vice President for Athletics and Recreation/Chief Operating Officer, and Assistant Vice President for Athletics and Recreation/Governance and Performance, respectively. Both will continue to serve on the executive leadership team and as sport administrators.
 


"Marvin and Shoshanna were two of my first three hires after returning to Brown," said Calhoun. "I have relied heavily on their advice, expertise, and hard work ever since. They have been instrumental in everything done in the past 18 months, greatly enhancing the student-athlete and fan experiences while building important partnerships across the university. They've had a tremendous impact in their short time on College Hill and have earned Assistant Vice President for Athletics and Recreation titles."

Marvin Lewis joined College Hill in July 2021 as Deputy Director of Athletics, Finance and External Relations/CFO. Lewis oversees fan engagement and ticket sales, communications and content creation, corporate sponsorships and licensing, business and accounting offices, human resources and talent development, equipment and brand management, and facilities and event operations. He is the sport administrator for men's basketball, men's soccer, women's soccer and women's lacrosse. 

In his first season, Lewis was pivotal in the organizational design and growth of the division, visual identity and brand refresh, long-term budget modeling,  implementation of new fan engagement initiatives, and expanding the concessions and premium hospitality offerings, in partnership with Dining Services and Learfield. Since his arrival, Lewis' strategic initiatives were designed to improve the student-athlete experience, engage the Brown University community, and elevate the division's storytelling and overall brand awareness.

Shoshanna Engel Lewis joined Brown in July 2021 as Deputy Director of Athletics, Governance and Student Services/Senior Woman Administrator. She oversees governance, diversity, equity, and inclusion, compliance, student-athlete development, and wellness and performance, including sports performance, sports medicine, and nutrition, and serves as sport administrator for women's basketball, women's crew, men's crew. and men's lacrosse. 

Engel Lewis' work to enhance the student-athlete experience includes building a student-athlete development unit and creating a wellness and performance ecosystem, including the addition of nutrition and mental health personnel. Working within the Division and strengthening partnerships across campus to provide robust resources and programs, many of Engel Lewis' early initiatives aim to drive personal growth through holistic development and sport performance, engage stakeholders across the Brown and Providence communities, and create an inclusive Athletics and Recreation experience.
