Minnesota Launches NIL Marketplace

Businesses and fans can now connect directly with student-athletes about NIL opportunities
MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota Director of Athletics Mark Coyle announced updates to the Athletic Department's support for student-athlete Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) activities.
First, the Minnesota NIL Marketplace powered by Basepath has officially launched. This provides Gopher student-athletes, fans and businesses from across the country a safe, easy and efficient way to connect, formulate an NIL agreement and transmit payment.
The complimentary NIL marketplace allows student-athletes to control the services and rates that they offer for things such as video shout-outs, private lessons, endorsements and personal appearances. Additionally, fans and businesses can connect directly with student-athletes to pitch marketing and endorsement deals. All Minnesota student-athletes are eligible to opt-in and be featured on the Marketplace if they choose to participate.
"Minnesota student-athletes have benefited greatly from NIL and will continue to do so in the future," said Coyle. "The Marketplace will help streamline requests and provide efficient and direct channels of communication to our student-athletes as they continue to partner with businesses and fans."
Members of the public can access a searchable database of Gopher student-athletes, and filter through different criteria on the site. After a business, group or individual registers with the Marketplace, they can message the student-athlete directly in the application to start a discussion about an NIL transaction. The University will not be a party to the negotiations and NCAA rules prohibit institutional staff members from ensuring NIL obligations are complete. Once an NIL deal is completed student-athletes will receive the payment securely. All income will be consolidated into a single 1099 for tax reporting purposes.
Dinkytown Athletes Membership
Since launching in August 2022, Dinkytown Athletes has served as an NIL collective associated with the University of Minnesota. Their mission is to "support student-athletes with NIL opportunities, educational resources, and post-graduation career opportunities." Fans who are interested in joining Dinkytown Athletes membership group can sign up here and even provide gift memberships for the Gopher fan in your life. Monthly memberships start at $10.
