Tom White ’09 Appointed Colby-Sawyer College Interim Director of Athletics

NEW LONDON, N.H. — (Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023) Colby-Sawyer College announced Thursday that Head Baseball Coach Tom White '09 has been appointed interim director of athletics for the 2023-24 academic year.

White, who was named head baseball coach in 2021 and associate athletic director this past spring, will remain in his role as head of the baseball program throughout the duration of his tenure. Inducted into the college's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014 for his accomplishments on both the baseball and soccer fields, White graduated from Colby-Sawyer with a degree in sport management and later earned his Master of Business Administration from Plymouth State University.

"I want to thank President Susan Stuebner and Vice President Robin Davis for entrusting me with the opportunity to lead the athletic department," White said. "I am committed to supporting our many talented coaches, staff and student-athletes as we continue to build on the positive trajectory of athletic and academic excellence."

As interim director of athletics, White will oversee all aspects of the Athletics Department including supervising coaches, managing budgets and athletics operations, collaborating with other key offices and individuals across campus and supporting the overall student-athlete experience. Associate Director of Athletics and Director of the Hogan Sports Center and Recreational Sports Lisa Lacombe will be assisting with the interim responsibilities.

"As interim director of athletics, I know Tom will provide strong and engaged leadership for the upcoming year for the department and our student-athletes," Colby-Sawyer President Susan D. Stuebner said. "Tom's success as a student-athlete, an assistant and head coach, and an administrator makes him uniquely qualified for this position. He is a talented leader and is enthusiastic about supporting the success of our student-athletes."

Before returning to New London as an assistant under former head baseball coach Jim Broughton, White served as head baseball coach at NVU-Lyndon from 2013 to 2018. During his tenure, White led the Hornets to three playoffs appearances and was named North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Coach of the Year in 2017. During his three seasons as an assistant at Colby-Sawyer, White also worked as the assistant director of admissions.

A native of Lisbon, New Hampshire, White is married to Ellen (Naughton) White '09, a women's basketball student-athlete for the Chargers from 2005 to 2009. The couple has two sons, Colin and Connor.
