Heald Takes Over SE Cross Country Program

DURANT, Okla. – Following the addition of Dr. Jerome Morgan to lead the Southeastern track and field program, Dr. Stephanie Heald will move into the role of head coach for the Savage Storm cross country team.
 
Heald will continue to also serve as an assistant for the track and field team, working with the distance and middle-distance runners, while Morgan will assist her with the cross-country program.
 
"I consider it a great privilege," said Heald, "And an honor to lead the cross-country program at my alma mater. I want to thank the Director of Athletics Keith Baxter and President Newsom with entrusting me with this opportunity.  I would also like to thank former coach Ron Hair for his guidance and support. I am very excited about continuing to work with our student-athletes and the athletic department this upcoming season in this new role."
 
Heald has served as an assistant coach with cross country and track and field for the last five seasons, including serving as the interim head coach for the track and field program in the spring of 2023.
 
During her tenure as the interim head coach, seven student-athletes picked up all-conference honors and 10 school records were broken.
 
As assistant coach for track and field, Heald worked with the sprints, jumps, relays and hurdle athletes. She has contributed to the recent development the Southeastern track & cross-country programs have endured. She coached 11 GAC all conference track and field performances including the 2021 GAC champion in the 200 and 400.
 
Dr. Heald married Anthony Doran II in the summer of 2023 and is a 2008 graduate of Southeastern with a degree in social studies education before earning a master's in 2012 at North Texas in applied geography and added a doctorate from Oklahoma State in 2018.
