BUFFALO – D'Youville University and the Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Ona Halladay, announced the hiring of Marybeth Nugent as the new Assistant Athletic Director for Wellness & Recreation.
"First of all, as we continue to build out our leadership team, Marybeth has a lot of experience in collegiate athletics both as a coach and student-athlete," Halladay said. "In terms of wellness and recreation for the university, it's important in athletics to provide opportunities for our on-campus population to be active and be healthy. Marybeth's background goes all the way back to personal training and she's driven, connected, and understands how people need to take care of their bodies. She's also going to help our leadership team, the student-athlete experience, and our coaches as well."
"Wanting to stay in college athletics and having a background in wellness and exercise science, this was an opportunity that I was excited about," said Nugent. "I was approached about this position and having some familiarity with D'Youville, I knew it was a good fit for me."
Nugent will be responsible for the management of the fitness center, intramurals, and wellness programming within the athletic department. She will also serve as a member of the athletic leadership team, assisting with game administration, strategic planning, and SAAC.
Prior to her arrival at DYU, Nugent served as the head women's basketball coach at SUNY Buffalo State University since the 2018-19 season. Prior to being the head coach, Nugent was the assistant coach for the three previous seasons.
During her time as a coach, Nugent was also a personal trainer at Orangetheory Fitness located in nearby Hamburg. Prior to Orangetheory Fitness, Nugent was a personal trainer at the Biggest Loser Resort located in North Java.
Nugent graduated from Daemen in the spring of 2011 where she received her Bachelor of Science in Health Care Studies with a specialization in Health and Fitness.
