Brewster Joins PacWest Conference Staff

Piper Brewster arrives with experience in compliance, as an athletic director and also packs a law degree

The newest member of the Pacific West Conference staff brings a wealth of experience packed into a still young career.

Piper Brewster is the new Compliance Director and Senior Woman Administrator of the PacWest, announced today by new commissioner Jessica Harbison Weaver. Brewster steps into the position vacated by Harbison Weaver when she replaced retired commissioner Bob Hogue on July 1.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Piper Brewster as the Associate Commissioner and Senior Woman Administrator, since this position is such a vital position to the PacWest Conference,” Harbison Weaver said. “Having someone with Piper’s experience and commitment to integrity as part of the PacWest Conference leadership will benefit all of our member institutions and student-athletes. I’m confident that she will be a great addition to the conference office.”

Brewster comes to the PacWest after serving the past year as the Athletic Director for Carondelet High School in Concord, Calif. An all-girls catholic school, Carondelet is the sister school of De La Salle High School. Brewster oversaw 18 athletic programs, 36 total teams and all day-to-day operations of the athletic department.

Prior to that, Brewster spent 11 years at St. Mary’s College of California (Division I) in Moraga, her alma mater. She was the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance, overseeing the area of compliance for all 16 of SMC’s sports. In addition to her compliance duties, Brewster also oversaw five of the Gaels’ athletic programs, monitored all athletic aide and contributed to the Name, Likeness and Image program (NLI) policies while a part of the NAAC Legislation and Governance committee from 2017-2021. She was instrumental in planning the 2021 West Coast Conference (WCC) Cross Country Championships.

Brewster graduated from St. Mary’s in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. As an undergrad, she worked in the SMC sports information office and interned with the Oakland Raiders.
Next, she earned her law degree from John F. Kennedy Law School (2010), where she twice earned the Witkin Award for Academic Excellence. She was an adjunct professor at JFK from 2012 to 2018.

She returned to St. Mary’s, working in the compliance office while pursuing her master’s degree in Business Administration with a Sports Management concentration. Before becoming the Senior Associate AD for Compliance in 2018, Brewster served as the Assistant AD for Compliance and was later promoted to the Associate AD of Compliance for Monitoring and Education. She has also taught classes at St. Mary’s since 2014 in the graduate kinesiology department and in legal aspects of sports, governance and leadership.

“I am beyond excited to join the PacWest team,” Brewster said. “The PacWest has a long tradition of success and a strong commitment to academics and diversity. I am looking forward to returning to college athletics and sharing my compliance experience with the PacWest members, especially those reclassifying to NCAA Division II.”

The Pacific West Conference enters its 32nd season in 2023-24 with 11 schools in Hawai`i and California. In 2024-25, they will grow to 14 schools.

“The PacWest has created a rich student-athlete experience and I look forward to working with the student-athletes, coaches and staff to continue to elevate that experience,” Brewster added. “I want to thank Jessica and the entire PacWest staff for this opportunity.”

Brewster, who lives in Martinez, Calif., will begin her work with the PacWest on August 14.
