Shomo Steps Down as Women’s Volleyball Head Coach

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (August 9, 2023) – Western New England women's volleyball head coach Samantha Shomo has announced her resignation from the position, effective August 15.

Shomo, a 2011 graduate of Western New England University, took the helm as head coach in 2016 and led the Golden Bears to a 89-91 record over six seasons during her tenure. Shomo coached ten All-CCC Selections and reached the CCC Championship match in 2016.

Shomo and the Golden Bears finished the 2022 season with a 17-13 record and reached the CCC Semifinals for the second consecutive season after upsetting the third seed in the CCC Quarterfinal match. Shomo ends her tenure with a 25-27 record in CCC play.

"It is with deep regret that I accept Coach Shomo's resignation from the women's volleyball program," said Director of Athletic and Recreation Dino L. Pollock Esq. "We are so grateful for her leadership and stewardship of the Golden Bear Volleyball program for the past six years.  She is a beloved alum, and we wish her much success as she pursues other career opportunities.  We have initiated an immediate national search for our next head coach and hope to have successor in place very soon."

The Western New England women's volleyball season begins on Friday, September 1 at the Eastern Nazarene Invitational at 6:30 PM.
