Heinzman named Eagles Cross Country and Track & Field Head Coach

MADISON, Wis. - Edgewood College's search for a new cross country and track & field coach turned up a fantastic and excitable candidate. The Eagles have named Matthew Heinzman to take over the Eagle cross country and track & field programs.

"We are excited to have Matthew Heinzman join the Eagle Family," said Eagles Director of Athletics Suann Saltzberry. "He is eager to lead both programs. He has a vision to grow rosters and grind in recruiting. I'm excited to see him build off the current foundation and take it to the next level."

Heinzman comes to Edgewood College after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Augustana College during the 2022-23 academic year. At Augustana, Heinzman was a part of training with distance athletes and had a large hand in recruitment. Heinzman was a stand-out cross country and track & field student-athlete at Wartburg College from 2017-2022. He was a six-time national qualifier, two-time All-American and helped his team win their first NCAA Division III Outdoor track & field championship in 2021. Heinzman owns 10 top-10 times in the Wartburg track & field history books, including the school-record time in the indoor 4x800 meter relay.

"I am excited for the opportunity to begin my coaching journey with Edgewood College," said Heinzman. "It will be tough act to follow Coach (Bethany) Brewster's tremendous career, but I am eager for the challenge and hope to keep building from the foundation she has created. I want to thank Suann Saltzberry for her enthusiasm in bringing me into the Edgewood College athletics family. Lastly, I want to thank Wartburg and Augustana for providing a safe place where I had the opportunity to grown into the coach I am today."

Heinzman has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Health and Fitness Studies from Wartburg College. He is currently working online towards his Master's degree in Business Administration at Western Illinois.
