Hobart and William Smith Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics and Recreation Brian Miller has announced that Pat Cosquer has resigned as the head coach for the HWS Squash teams to accept a role as a Performance Strategist with Evolveability.

Cosquer just completed his third season leading the Statesmen and Heron squash programs. He led Hobart to a 29-33 record and William Smith was 48-13 under his tutelage. Including 11 years as the head coach at Bates, Cosquer compiled a career record of 386-246.

"I want to personally thank Pat for his efforts to lift HWS Squash to its current success, his work connecting with alums and parents, and his unyielding support and mentorship for countless student-athletes he has recruited to Geneva from across the globe," says Miller. "The Colleges have benefited tremendously from Pat's commitment to the sport, and we are all sad to see him leave."

Cosquer says that the decision to leave Hobart and William Smith is bittersweet. "I have been honored and privileged to work in such a highly competitive and dynamic athletic environment, alongside talented coaches and staff and to be given the opportunity to coach and mentor dozens of dedicated and passionate student-athletes," he says. "My family and I will always cherish our time spent by Seneca Lake and we look forward to cheering on the Statesmen and Herons from the sidelines."

William Smith was 18-4 last season, finishing with the most wins in program history. The Herons went 4-0 at the Liberty League Championship, winning all four matches 9-0. The Herons finished the year 15th in the nation at the CSA Team Championships, matching the program's best finish at nationals. Hobart was 11-11 in 2022-23. The Statesmen were presented with the prestigious Barnaby Award as the most improved team in the CSA. Hobart finished the year 20th in the nation.

In 2021-22 William Smith was 14-4, finishing second at the Liberty League Championships. The Herons went 3-0 at the CSA Team Championship, capturing the Walker Cup and finishing the year 17th in the nation. Hobart went 11-9 in 2021-22. Hobart went 4-0 at the CSA Team Championships, winning the Conroy Cup.

In Cosquer's first season, William Smith was 16-5 overall. They went 3-0 in the Liberty League Championship to claim the conference crown at the Smith Squash Center. The Statesmen posted a 7-13 overall record.

Cosquer mentored 22 All-Liberty League selections (12 William Smith, 10 Hobart). Three Herons won major awards under Cosquer, including Liberty League Players of the Year Marce Marquez Martinez in 2020 and 2022 and Rafaela Albuja Sanchez in 2023 and the Liberty League Rookie of the Year Laila Selim in 2022. Cosquer was named the Liberty League Coach of the Year in 2019-20.
