David Clouse Named Interim Head Coach of Men's and Women's Golf

LINCOLN, Neb. (August 10, 2023) - Nebraska Wesleyan Athletics announces the promotion of David Clouse as the Interim Head Coach of Men's and Women's Golf. Clouse returned as an assistant this past season, after previously serving as head coach for the 2014-15 season.

"I am excited to announce David Clouse as our Interim Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach at Nebraska Wesleyan University" said Nebraska Wesleyan Director of Athletics Dwight Merilatt.  "I know his experiences will only help to strengthen and grow the success of both programs."

Clouse led the Prairie Wolf men to a second place finish in the GPAC Championships during the 2014-2015 season. Clouse also spent time as the Friend High School head golf coach.

"I am excited to step in as interim head coach," said David Clouse. "I love to teach and coach. I am hopeful that my personal experience can be helpful to the talented student-athletes we have at Nebraska Wesleyan University."

The athletic background of Clouse is also quite impressive. He attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and was on the golf team, winning All-American and Academic All-American accolades in 1983.  In addition, Clouse was selected to the GPAC All-Conference team in 1982 and 1983 while at Nebraska Wesleyan. He was later inducted into the Nebraska Golf Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Nebraska Wesleyan Hall of Fame in 2003.

He has won the Nebraska Amateur State Golf Championship five times and has also been selected as the Nebraska Amateur Golfer of the Year on four occasions. Clouse was also named the Senior Amateur Player of the Year. In addition to his state-level accomplishments, Clouse also played in nine USGA national championships and won 34 Nebraska Golf Association Points Tournaments. He was also a five-time Firethorn Club Champion.
