MEC Announces 2023-24 Non-Conference Scheduling Agreement with Salem

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference announced today a non-conference scheduling agreement for the 2023-24 season with Salem University, which will preserve 156 athletic contests recently lost from schedules due to membership change.

The non-conference partnership fills open dates in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, and women’s volleyball following the impending closure and immediate suspension of athletics at Alderson Broaddus University.

“It was imperative that we work quickly to preserve as many of our schedules in as many sports as possible so that MEC student-athletes could maintain competitive opportunities,” said Commissioner Reid Amos. “We appreciate Salem’s willingness to partner with us for the upcoming year despite the challenging timeline to achieve such an agreement.  We look forward to many competitive non-conference regional matchups against Salem in 2023-24.”

The non-conference contests for MEC members versus Salem in the aforementioned sports will be inserted into the MEC’s existing regular season schedules in place of Alderson Broaddus.

“Our member institutions have enjoyed a great deal of success during the league’s tenure, including multiple national and regional championships. We look forward to assessing potential candidates for membership who share our goals and values as we aim to return to at least 12 full-time members,” stated Amos.
