Meghan Keelan Named Women's Lacrosse Head Coach

Keelan joins WAC after seven successful seasons at Rhodes College.

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College Athletic Director Thad Moore has named Meghan Keelan as the new head coach for Shorewomen Lacrosse.

"After an extensive national search, we are excited to welcome Meghan to Washington College," expressed Moore. "She comes to us with a tremendous amount of success in both her coaching and playing career. Her genuine personality and competitive nature were very apparent during the interview process and will serve her well on the field and recruiting trail.  We look forward to watching our lacrosse team under her guidance."

"I am honored and excited to be named the head women's lacrosse coach at Washington College," said Keelan. "I would like to thank Director or Athletics Thad Moore, Assistant Director of Athletics Kim Lessard and the entire search committee for their belief in me to continue elevating this program to new heights. Throughout the process it was abundantly clear that Washington College is a special place and I am thrilled to be joining the community."

Keelan, a Maryland native, comes to the Eastern Shore after serving as head coach at Rhodes College since 2017. She guided the Lynx to the Southern Athletic Association title in six of her seven seasons at the helm (there was no conference title in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic). In total, Keelan finished with a 97-23 record at Rhodes, including a 47-0 mark in SAA play. The Lynx qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament six times under Keelan, advancing past the first round five times with two trips to the Sweet 16.

Rhodes regularly dominated the postseason awards under Keelan with dozens of All-Conference and IWLCA All-Region selections during her time. This past season, Rhodes racked up four IWLCA All-Region first team selections, three second team All-Region selections and ten All-Conference selections with six first team nods. Keelan's group also finished with five IWLCA Honor Roll selections and was named an IWLCA Honor Squad with a 3.41 team GPA. In 2022, the Lynx earned an IWLCA All-American selection, just the third in SAA Conference history.

Keelan played collegiately at UMBC and served as the Retrievers captain during her senior season.  She led the team in assists twice in four years. After graduating from UMBC with a degree in Psychology, Keelan served as an assistant coach at Bucknell University for three seasons.

In 2011, Keelan was named head coach at Division II Shepherd University. Over the course four seasons as the Rams head coach, Keelan racked up a program record 43 wins and a Mountain East Conference title during her final season. After leaving Shepherd, Keelan was named Assistant Coach at Division I Arizona State University before taking over at Rhodes in 2017.
