Davidson named Eagles Men’s Golf Coach, Hentrich Adds Director of Golf

MADISON, Wis. - Edgewood College is proud to announce updates to the men's and women's golf staff. The Eagles have named alumnus Matthew Davidson '22 to take over the men's golf program. In addition, women's golf coach Josh Hentrich '21 will now serve as Director of Golf and Athletics Coordinator.

"We are thrilled to welcome Matthew Davidson, as the head men's golf coach," said Director of Athletics Suann Saltzberry. "Matt's passion for golf and knowledge of the game will continue to move the men's golf program forward. Matt is well respected around the golf world and will produce successful student-athletes on the course and in the classroom."

Davidson is extremely familiar with Edgewood College, having graduated in 2022 with a bachelor's degree after spending five seasons as a member of the Edgewood College men's golf team. Davidson, who served as the graduate assistant coach for the 2022-23 season, was a five-time All-NACC honoree and NACC Freshman of the Year in 2017-18. Davidson competed at a high level in the NACC, placing within the top-10 at the NACC Championships in all five seasons. He owns the second-best career scoring average in program history, a 75.44 over 78 rounds. Davidson also owns the most first place finishes in men's golf history, with six. He owns a total of 18 top-five finishes and 23 top-10 placements in his career. Davidson was named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar in his final three seasons with the Eagles.

"I am excited to be the next men's golf coach," said Davidson. "I was fortunate enough to work with the athletic department at Edgewood college as a student-athlete and I am looking forward to providing the same great experience I had to future student-athletes. I would like to thank Coach Oftedahl for encouraging me to take this position, he set a great standard for me to strive for in his time at Edgewood College. I'd also like to thank Suann Saltzberry for giving me the opportunity."

"Matt and I played all four of our years together here at Edgewood College," said Josh Hentrich. "Along the way, we became great friends both on and off the course. I have all the confidence in the world that Matt will be able to lead the men's program to many great things and it is pretty surreal that I get to help him out along the way."

Hentrich, who was hired in August 2022 to take over the women's golf program, continues to add to his responsibilities with the Edgewood College Athletic department. Hentrich will add athletics coordinator to his list. He will also oversee all recruiting, teaching, personnel, and budgeting responsibilities for both the men's and women's golf programs.

"I am excited to have Josh Hentrich joining our athletic staff full-time," said Saltzberry. "Having Josh full-time, on-campus will greatly impact and improve the student-athlete experience for both our women's and men's golfers. Josh is passionate about Edgewood College, our student-athletes and golf programs."

In his first season at the helm of the women's golf program, Hentrich led the Eagles to finish the 2022-23 campaign with a flurry of career-best performances. The Eagles women's golf program has seen continued growth under his leadership, and will continue to seek a high level of performance in the region.

"I am really excited to be more involved in the Edgewood College golf programs and take on this new position of Director of Golf," Hentrich said. "Coaching full-time in the sport I love is truly a dream come true for me. I would like to thank Suann Saltzberry for putting her trust in me to lead these programs. I can't wait to get started."
