New Lights Installed at Augusta University Baseball and Softball Fields for the First Time in Program History

AUGUSTA, Ga – For the first time in program history, Augusta University baseball and softball will host night games under newly installed, state-of-the-art LED lighting systems. Jaguar fans and visitors to the Augusta Athletics Complex will have the chance to watch both teams compete under the lights after the major project was recently completed.

Thanks to the support of Augusta University President Dr. Brooks A. Keel, PhD, both the baseball and softball fields at Augusta University were a part of the lighting project that was started in the spring and completed in June.

"Augusta Athletics is extremely grateful for the investment Dr. Brooks Keel and his team are making into Jaguar Athletics," said Director of Athletics Ryan Erlacher. "The ability for both the baseball and softball programs to finally host night games will have an immediate and positive impact on everyone involved with the teams. This project is just one of many planned to enhance the baseball and softball facilities at Augusta University, and when completed, the new complex will rival some of the best facilities throughout the NCAA DII."

"Not to be cliché' but this is a game changer for us in so many ways," said head softball coach Melissa Brocato. "Not only will it allow us to play games at night so that parents and fans can attend more, but it will afford us opportunities to work around class schedules so we can have more practices with the whole team present.  It also provides us with the opportunity to host evening camps and events.  We are excited to finally get these up and running!"

"I am really excited for our program to add lights to our field," said head baseball coach Chris Howell. "This resource and investment will provide a true baseball atmosphere and allow the community and students to come to watch us play."

Augusta partnered with industry leader Musco Lighting on the project, which features Musco's TLC for LED system with BallTracker Technology on both fields. LED lighting and fixtures are the new industry standard for facility lighting to improve the visibility and sightlines for competitors, visitors, and broadcasts. A total of 14 poles and over 100 fixtures were installed to match NCAA and professional ballpark light levels. The system installed at Augusta University mirrors the new system at SRP Park in North Augusta. SRP Park is the home of the Augusta Greenjackets, Single-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
