David Smith Named Men's & Women’s Cross Country Head Coach

IMMACULATA, Pa.- Paul Murphy, Immaculata University Director of Athletics and Recreation announced the hiring of David Smith as the head men's and women's cross-country coach.

"I am confident that our cross-country teams will continue to move forward under David's leadership," said Murphy. "His knowledge and commitment to establishing a tremendous team culture that will allow our distance runners to thrive will put Immaculata's student-athletes in a tremendous position."

Smith comes to Immaculata after spending the past eight years at Bayard Rustin High School. Smith was boys' cross-country head coach and girls' cross-country assistant coach and worked with Rustin's track distance and mid-distance athletes (800 meters & up).

"I am grateful to Paul Murphy and Immaculata University for the opportunity to step in as the head coach for the men's and women's cross-country teams," said Smith. "I look forward to the challenge of continuing to build the program and to establish the reputation of Immaculata University as a distance running school. I will be stepping into a great situation with a young team of good runners and the strong support of the University. I am eager to begin my work with each athlete to help them realize their potential and together create a great team and environment where runners can thrive."   

Smith earned his Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of the South. He earned his Post BACC secondary education teaching certificates and master's degree in Geoscience from West Chester University. Smith is employed as Chemistry, Geo-Science, Biology and Environmental Science Teacher at Bayard Rustin High School.
