HANOVER, N.H. — Mike Harrity, the Haldeman Family Director of Athletics and Recreation at Dartmouth College, today announced the hiring of James "J.B." Weber to serve as the department's senior associate athletics director for physical education and recreation.

Weber will replace Joann Brislin, who is retiring after 27 years on the athletics staff. She joined the Big Green as the head swimming coach in 1996 and spent the last 17 years working in the physical education and recreation office.

"We are grateful for all that Joann has invested during her time at Dartmouth," Harrity said. "I will be forever grateful for her generous offer to postpone her retirement during my first year at Dartmouth. Joann's positive impact will be lasting, and we look forward to seeing her cheering on our students at Big Green competitions in the future.

"During our national search, J.B. stood out from a terrific pool of finalists through his demonstrated commitment to the primacy of student well-being as well as his strategic approach to elevating the teams he's been a part of. We are thrilled to welcome J.B. and the entire Weber family to Dartmouth."

Weber comes to Hanover after spending the last six years at the College of Charleston where he began as the assistant director of academic services in January 2017. He transitioned into the role of director of compliance later that year before earning a promotion to assistant athletics director for compliance prior to the 2019-20 academic year. Weber was then elevated to senior associate athletics director for compliance two years ago.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
"Dartmouth has made a great choice in selecting J.B. Weber as their next senior associate athletics director for physical education and recreation. As a seasoned professional with close to 20 years of experience in intercollegiate athletic administration, J.B.'s passion, commitment, energy and outgoing infectious personality will be a tremendous addition to the team of administrators in Big Green Nation. J.B. has demonstrated a deep concern for the overall well-being of each student-athlete he has worked with during his career, and I know that this approach to his job will most certainly continue."

— Joseph D'Antonio, Commissioner of the Colonial Athletic Association
"J.B. made a profound and indelible impact on our department through his servant leadership of our student-athletes, coaches and staff the past six years. His fingerprints will forever leave a positive impression on all the areas he touched. We are excited for J.B. and the Weber family as they embark on this new chapter in their lives. The Dartmouth community is getting a great one."

— Matt Roberts, College of Charleston Director of Athletics
"It's been an honor for me to work under the leadership of J.B. Weber. He has been a mentor, friend and advocate for me and my program since I stepped foot on the campus at the College of Charleston. He loves what he does and exudes pride in the success of his coaches and student-athletes. As a new head coach, he has empowered me and shown me that I have capability to be a successful wife, mother and head coach. In the world of collegiate athletics, that means so much and I am forever grateful."

— Tracey Lynch, College of Charleston Head Softball Coach
"J.B. Weber is a high-level administrator and has always been a guy that you can count on when you wanted to get something done. He was always available and when you needed an answer, he found a way to help you. I am excited for the impact he will make at Dartmouth in the years to come. He has a bright future and has always found a way to get the job done."

As the senior compliance administrator, Weber oversaw all areas of NCAA, Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and institutional compliance for Charleston's 19 varsity teams. He served on the senior leadership team and the athletic director's senior executive team. As the College of Charleston's Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee (ADID), Weber was responsible for all Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programming and initiatives in the department, plus oversaw the athletics business office. He also served as the sport supervisor for men's and women's golf, men's and women's cross country, women's track and softball, in addition to being a secondary sport supervisor for men's basketball, and men's and women's tennis.

Weber successfully led and completed a capital project, including executing a fundraising plan, for a new practice facility for the College of Charleston cross country/track and field programs. He also served as the point person for the new softball practice and competition facility. Weber served on multiple committees at the conference level — the CAA Family/DEI Executive Committee and the CAA Senior Compliance Administrators Committee.

"I am overjoyed to have the honor and privilege of joining the elite administration team in the Dartmouth Department of Athletics and Recreation," Weber said. "From the beginning of the search process, I deeply identified with Mike Harrity's vision and value of seeing intercollegiate athletics, physical education and recreation as being a central pillar of a holistic education experience for Dartmouth students. I am excited to engage with all the many constituencies to enhance and develop life-long habits aimed at sustainable mental and physical well-being. My wife Lisa, our children and I are overjoyed to come to the Upper Valley and join the Dartmouth family. We look forward to the coming years of success for the Big Green!"

Prior to his time with the Cougars, Weber spent nearly three years in the academic services and compliance office at Virginia Military Institute. He began as the assistant athletics director for academic services and compliance in August 2014 before being promoted to associate athletics director a year and a half later. He was responsible for the oversight of all academic service programs, cadet-athlete services and NCAA compliance systems and operations as well as all NCAA Academic Performance Program Reporting (including GSR & APR) and all NCAA Annual Reporting including demographics, sport sponsorship and revenue distribution reports. He also served on the athletics director's senior leadership team and was the sport administrator for six sports.

For seven years beginning in July of 2007, Weber was on staff at The Citadel where he began as the graduate assistant football coach. After two years, Weber became the director of the Corps Squad Program, The Citadels' athletic academic support service with responsibilities that included directing a comprehensive academic support services program for cadet-athletes while serving as the liaison between the academic support center and The Citadel athletic department. He then moved into compliance as the assistant athletics director for compliance and student-athlete development. Weber was responsible for managing all NCAA compliance systems and operations and advising cadet-athletes and academic support advisors on academic eligibility.

Weber's coaching and recreation experience also includes a one-year stint as the linebackers coach at Franklin & Marshall and numerous years at the high school and youth levels in golf, alpine skiing, football and basketball. He is a member of both the South Carolina Football and Basketball Officials Associations as well as the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletic (N4A).

A former Division III football athlete, Weber is a 2006 graduate of Franklin & Marshall with a bachelor's degree in history. He went on to earn his master's in history from The Citadel in 2012.
