UD Baseball's Wyczawski Announces Retirement

Coach Paul Wyczawski
Paul Wyczawski was named the 17th coach in the history of the baseball program at the University of Dubuque in the summer of 2012. This week he announced his retirement. The University of Dubuque is grateful for his hard work and dedication to the University of Dubuque and in his commitment to UD's Spartan student-athletes. We wish him well with continued personal and professional success.

"The 11 years I spent here were some of the best and most enjoyable coaching years I had in my career," said Wyczawski. "We have had outstanding student-athletes and seeing the program develop throughout my time including the 2018 championship season and the first conference title in school history were highlights. Also, the continued success all the way up to this last season (2023) where we set record for wins in a season with 29. More than the league championship was the championship players I was able to coach and I feel so blessed to have worked with so many great young men over the years."

Coaching Career History
Wyczawski finished his 11th season as the Spartans head coach and coached his 2023 squad to the American Rivers Conference Tournament Championship in May (career leading record of 29 wins in a season).

In his time at UD, Wyczawski helped capture the school's first conference championship in 2018. He was named conference Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2018 joining former UD coach Dennis Rima (1994) as the only coaches to have earned the designation. His squads qualified for the conference tournament six times. He has coached 46 All- Conference selections (15-First Team, 22-Second Team, nine-Honorable Mention) and nine All-Region players. His teams have re-written the UD record book. He reached the 200-win milestone at UD in May of 2023 in a split with Simpson College on the road.

His additional successful coaching career and player success at UD includes the following:
• Head coach at University of Texas-Tyler, two seasons
• Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, Murray State University, six seasons
• Head coach, Hillcrest Christian School, Jackson, Miss., 10 seasons.
•  Associate Scout, Texas Rangers, seven years; Pittsburgh Pirates, two years
