ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville announced a change in leadership in its volleyball program Tuesday morning. Frederico Santos is stepping down as head coach after twelve seasons leading the Bulldogs to pursue other professional opportunities.

"I would like to thank Fred for his commitment and dedication to UNC Asheville and our volleyball program," said Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone. "Coach Santos has been a valued member of our department during his time here and we wish him and his family the best moving forward."

Santos began his tenure in May of 2011, becoming the fifth head coach in program history. He finishes with a record of 139-188 and 77-103 in Big South Conference matches.

Santos' tenure was highlighted by 17 victories in 2013 and 16 wins in 2018 that featured a 10-match winning streak that was ultimately snapped in the Big South Conference Tournament semifinals vs. High Point. The winning streak was the program's longest since 2005.

Assistant Coach Jen Peterson will serve as interim head coach while a national search is conducted for the next leader of the program.
