Position Summary:
The Senior Director of Compliance will lead monitoring of NIL activities and providing NIL education to stakeholders, serving as the key compliance liaison to the NIL Directors. This position is also responsible for directing all aspects of athletics compliance monitoring processes involving personnel, recruiting activities, awards and benefits, team travel, playing and practice seasons, and general NCAA, conference and institutional requirements. The position assists with the supervision of the Compliance Intern, the Compliance Graduate Assistant and the Compliance Student positions.
Duties and Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:
- Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics, and NCAA policies and procedures;
- Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules, and procedures;
- Foster cooperative working relationships with fellow staff members within the Department;
- Support the athletics department goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values;
- Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and in working with other staff members;
- Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road;
- Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
- Manage NIL compliance questions and requests from internal stakeholders (e.g., student-athletes, coaches, staff, etc.) and external stakeholders (e.g., prospects and their family members, donors, third-party individuals, local business, etc.);
- Partner with NIL Directors to lead student-athlete, donor, and staff education related to adopted and pending Federal, State, and NCAA NIL policies/laws;
- Work with NIL Directors to help manage the processing and monitoring of student-athlete NIL opportunities to ensure NCAA, Big 12, and institutional compliance;
- Coordinate education for advising coaches and staff of new legislation, interpretations and amendments to existing legislation;
- Serve as compliance staff liaison to several sport programs and athletic department offices. Including, providing monthly rules education to assigned programs; providing interpretations related to questions about NCAA legislation; and handle all aspects of sport programs compliance efforts (excluding financial aid and eligibility);
- Direct the administration of all student-athlete recruiting documentation, including oversight of monitoring recruiting activity documentation, including but not limited to: coaches’ designation, contacts and evaluations, telephone calls, official and unofficial visits;
- Direct the administration of all playing and practice season documentation and monitoring including but not limited to: declaration of playing and practice season, daily and weekly hour limitations on athletically related activities and individual/team competition limits;
- Direct the administration of all team travel documentation and monitoring including but not limited to departure and return time restrictions, benefits, per diem, lodging and entertainment;
- Assist with the annual compliance orientation process with all student-athletes and coaches including but not limited to administering required NCAA, Big 12 Conference and Institutional forms;
- Oversight of the monitoring procedure for all Kansas Athletics travel/expense reports by coaches and designated administrators for NCAA rules compliance;
- Research and provide interpretation and clarification of NCAA, Big 12 and Institutional rules and regulations;
- Assist with the administration of compliance related functions during athletic department events; Serve as Compliance Representative during booster and alumni organization functions;
- Assist with the education of all staff members, student-athletes and representatives of athletics interests;
- Enforcement of NCAA, Big 12 Conference and department rules and policies for all staff;
- Assist with researching, investigating and reporting all rules violations to the NCAA and/or the Big 12 Conference;
- Assist with other assignments or tasks as assigned by the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
- Minimum of 4 years Division I FBS Compliance experience which can include NCAA National Office compliance experience in Enforcement or AMA;
- Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations;
- Strong computer knowledge; demonstrated knowledge of Compliance Assistant (CAi) and Legislative Services Database internet (LSDBi);
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a diverse group including: students, parents, coaches, and administrators in a professional manner;
- Experience using compliance monitoring software;
- Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed during peak game and recruiting seasons.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university;
- Knowledge and experience with NIL (Name, Image, Likeness).
Work Environment
This job operates in both a professional office environment and outside at athletic-related events, including inclement weather. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to: cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and far vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 25 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.
Travel
Occasional travel is expected for this position.
Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the football program and as job duties demand. Early morning, evening and weekend work may be required.
