6/22/2023 2:35:00 PM

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Last week during the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Convention in Orlando, Fla., Fort Valley State's Dr. Renae Myles Payne was elected President of the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA) (www.moaaweb.com).

Dr. Myles Payne will lead the organization for the next two years, 2023-2025. MOAA is the premier professional organization for athletic administrators from underrepresented groups and allies who champion diversity, equity, and inclusion. It advocates for increased opportunities for minorities in athletics and sports in general.

MOAA was founded in 2000 by six athletic administrators who saw the need to champion and develop those coming behind them through education and professional development. The organization began with 20 members and has grown to over 1100 members.
Presidents of the organization have come from all NCAA divisions and a diverse mix of males and females have led the organization during its 23 years.

Dr. Renae has been on the MOAA Board for the last four years and has led the planning for the annual MOAA Symposium since 2014. She is humbled that the membership has entrusted the next two years to her leadership.

"When I started in this profession, MOAA was not around. So, a lot of things I learned early in my career were through trial and error," pointed out Myles Payne. "The next generation of leaders don't have to fail as much, because they have MOAA to lean on to help them develop professionally at a faster pace."
The gavel was passed to Dr. Renae on June 11th at the close of the Symposium. Over 300 people were in attendance to welcome her to the presidency. She outlined her platform to the 17 members of the Board of Directors in their annual meeting. Dr. Renae and the Board will get to work this fall as they focus on replenishing and sustaining the pipeline of diverse athletic administrators, improving MOAA's visibility and significance among college & university Presidents/CEO's, and increasing ally membership by 25%.
