King announces staff promotions

BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University vice president for athletics David Hicks has announced the promotion of Dawn Regan and Jason Moorman to the positions of assistant athletic director.

Regan, the assistant athletic director for operations and student services, begins her 15th year as a member of the King athletic staff, and has also served as the Senior Woman Administrator since 2020. She joined the Tornado in 2008 as athletics and compliance assistant, a role in which she provided administrative support for the entire department, with a specific emphasis in compliance. In 2018, she was promoted to athletic operations manager, and assumed responsibility for business operations, gameday event management, and the student employment program. In addition, she has served as the staff liaison for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) since 2020.

"Dawn has been an integral part of King athletics for the past 15 years," said Hicks. "She's been a valuable member of our leadership team the past five years, and I look forward to her contributions to all of our students and staff in her new role."
In addition to her current responsibilities, Regan will assume a greater leadership role within the department, specifically in the area of supporting student-athletes.

"I am so excited for this opportunity that David Hicks, our VP of Athletics, has given me," Regan said. "Working with the student-athletes at King University is such a rewarding experience and I'm grateful to be a part of this chapter in their lives. I am also looking forward in continuing to lead, serve and achieve King athletics."

"Dawn's compassion for our students and staff, along with her commitment to our institutional and departmental missions make her a natural leader for both our students and staff," Hicks continued. "I'm excited to see the impact she will have on King athletics in her new leadership role."

Moorman joined the Tornado in 2007 as assistant men's wrestling coach, and in 2009 became the first head women's wrestling coach when King launched the program. Moorman has led the Tornado to 10 combined national championships, coached multiple national champions, and two Olympians in the past 13 years.

"Jason is a tremendous leader, who always brings out the best in people," said Hicks. "During my time at King, he's always been someone I can turn to for guidance or advice when facing difficult situations. His leadership abilities and experience make him an indispensable member of our leadership team."

Moorman's primary responsibilities as assistant athletic director will be supporting the coaching staff, being charged with developing mentorship and training programs for all coaches, with a special emphasis on younger coaches. He will continue to lead the women's wrestling program in addition to his responsibilities as assistant athletic director.

"I am very honored and thankful to take on this new role," Moorman said. "The character of so many great coaches and student-athletes is what has made King athletics special during my tenure here. They are truly what makes our culture thrive. I look forward to sharing the knowledge I have gained over the last 15 years at King, as well as continue to connect with and learn from others."

"Like many small private schools, many of our assistant coaches, and some head coaches, get their first opportunities to coach and lead at the college level at King," Hicks added. "While our head coaches and other staff work hard to mentor these young coaches, having a veteran coach like Jason, who has succeeded at the highest levels, be involved in intentional mentorship will be invaluable to our staff and, ultimately, our student-athletes."
