Oscar Ramirez named Associate Director of Athletics

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa University Interim Director of Athletics Joan McDermott has announced the hiring of Oscar Ramirez as the Associate Athletic Director on Wednesday (June 21) morning. Ramirez will have many duties including game day administration and sport supervision.
 
"I am very thankful for this opportunity and want to thank President John Marshall and Interim Director of Athletics Joan McDermott for their belief in me," Ramirez said. "I would like to say thank you to Dr. Kinney and Shane Larson at Iowa Western for their leadership and mentorship."
 
Prior to his arrival at Colorado Mesa, Ramirez spent the past three years as the Assistant Athletic Director and Associate Athletic Director in charge of gameday administration at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Prior to his administrative role with the Reivers, he spent four years as the associate head wrestling coach and helped start the women's program.
 
Ramirez spent two years at Iowa Western where he was a two-time All-American wrestler for the Reivers and finished as the national runner-up at 149 pounds in 2015. After a successful two years, he moved onto Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D. where he finished his wrestling career and earned his bachelor's degree in higher education.
 
He later went on to earn his master's degree in organizational leadership from Buena Vista University.
 
"My family and I are thrilled to be part of the Maverick family," Ramirez added.
 
Ramirez is scheduled to assume his role in early July.
